Glenshaw is a census-designated place within Shaler, Hampton, Indiana, O'Hara and Ross townships in Allegheny County and has a population density of 2,787, which is 97% above the national average. It has a median age of 48, which is 5 years above the Pittsburgh Metro median age and 10 years above the national average. As of the 2010 census, it had a population of 8,981. The village of Glenshaw, Pennsylvania—at the center of what became Shaler Township—was established in the early 19th century, beginning with a log sawmill built by John Shaw, Sr. after he bought 600 acres (2.4 km2) of land north of Pittsburgh in 1800. The area became known as "Shaw's Glen", and later Glenshaw. Members of the Shaw family subsequently built a log gristmill, a sickle factory, and a coal mine. Glenshaw, PA is a wonderful experience. It is a small suburban town nestled in the Allegheny Mountains, located just outside of Pittsburgh. Although it is not a very large community, Glenshaw offers plenty of amenities to its residents, including parks and recreational facilities, excellent schools and libraries, and plenty of local shops and restaurants that offer a variety of goods and services.
